Design Research Methods
Design research focuses on developing knowledge through direct connections with users/customers/people in order to make sense of their everyday lives, learn about their frustrations, and understand the world as they do. This research sets the stage for all our design decisions, and doing research properly will help ensure these decisions are made based on real human needs.
This workshop focuses on qualitative research methods, pulling from anthropology, psychology, and sociology. Participants will learn and practice primary research methods and be exposed to many other secondary methods. The end goal is to teach skills for understanding others, surfacing their unmet needs, and framing those needs for effective design.
- Learn effective use of interviewing, observation, and cultural probes
- Practice planning and executing research projects
- Learn techniques for debriefing with teams and finding patterns in results
